Molecular manipulation is a new science involving the alteration of the various properties of elements and matter on a quantum level. The possibilities for such a science are endless.
It is possible to create a metal thousands of times stronger than steel with simple modifications to the molecules of any element. Plastics to can be altered in this manner. All properties of a metal can be dictated and modified. Such as if it is effected by magnetism or how dense it is.
It is not unheard of to have a metal or plastic that is extremely durable and actually lighter than the surrounding atmosphere. Making it lighter than air. Changing the basic properties such as if it is a solid or a gas are also possible. This method has been employed in armor and materials used in space crafts.
It is also possible to alter the properties of living organic molecules in the same way as another material is altered. Making skin more durable and flexible and making bone matter stronger while not increasing weight.
